Privacy policy
Last updated 13 October 2026
Mizan is built to need as little of your data as possible. You don't need an account, there are no ads, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
What stays on your phone
- Your scan history, food preferences, health focus, language and Ramadan settings.
- Products you've opened, kept so the app works without signal.
These are stored only on your phone. Deleting the app, or using "Clear history and saved products" in Profile, removes them.
What is sent to Mizan's server, and why
- Barcodes you scan, to look up the product. We count how often each product is scanned, but we don't record who scanned it.
- Photos of labels you choose to take, to read the product details or look for a halal mark. The photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude to be read and are not stored by Mizan. The product details read from them are saved in Mizan's product database so other users benefit.
- Questions you ask Ask Mizan, with the details of the product you're asking about and, if you've set them, your food preferences and health focus. These are sent to Anthropic's Claude to answer. Mizan does not keep a copy of your conversations.
- Your IP address, used briefly to stop abuse (for example, limiting how many questions one phone can ask per hour). When you add or fix a product, we store a short one-way code made from your IP address, so repeated bad edits can be spotted. It can't be turned back into your IP address.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare runs Mizan's server and product database.
- Anthropic provides the Claude AI that reads label photos and answers questions. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API isn't used to train its models by default.
- Open Food Facts is where product information comes from when Mizan doesn't have it yet. Your phone may contact it directly to look up a barcode.
- Apple and Google will handle Mizan+ payments when they launch. Mizan won't see your card details.
What Mizan never does
- Sell your data, or share it with brands or advertisers.
- Show ads or track you across other apps and websites.
- Ask for your name, email or location to use the app.
Health information
If you turn on a health focus such as diabetes or pregnancy, that setting stays on your phone. It's only sent to the server, with no name or account attached, when you ask Ask Mizan a question, so the answer can take it into account.
Children
Mizan is a general audience app and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
You can clear your history and saved products in Profile at any time, turn off camera access in your phone's settings, and simply not use Ask Mizan or the photo features. To ask about data related to a product you added, email us with its barcode.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app. Questions: hello@mymizan.net.
